Terrific notes of lavender, scrub brush, pepper and black raspberries all emerge from the sexy, downright seamless 2014 Languedoc-Pézenas Clos des Lièvres. Based on 75% Syrah, 20% Grenache and a splash of Carignan, this medium to full-bodied, layered, impeccably balanced Pézenas is a huge success in the vintage and should not be missed!

MAS GABRIEL at the Solicitors' Wine Society

Those of you who read my blog with any regularity will know that Mas Gabriel is one of my favourite local estates and this tasting provided a great overview of their wines since their very first vintage in 2006. Deborah Core was a solicitor in a former life, so it was only fitting that she should present her wines to the solicitors.

    Reviews 13: Mas Gabriel

Deborah and Peter Core’s small biodynamic domain is found at Caux, near Pezenas: they kindly dropped in to see me and left a few samples last year (one of which, alas, proved to be corked), and I caught up with another of their wines via Rosemary George MW recently. The home vineyards are (unusually for Languedoc) on volcanic basalt; Deborah and Peter also have some pebble-soiled vineyards at St Jean de Bebian.
